About Mark and Maker

Mark and Maker is a free guide to identifying the maker's marks, hallmarks and stamps found on vintage and estate jewelry. Type the letters or describe the symbol on the back of a piece, or upload a photo of the stamp, and we will suggest the designers and manufacturers it may belong to.

Why we built it

Anyone who has turned a brooch over and squinted at a tiny stamp knows how hard it is to find out who made it. Marks are small, worn and often shared by several makers. We built Mark and Maker so collectors, sellers and curious owners have one place to start.

Who we are

Mark and Maker is made by Silver Queen Studio, a vintage and estate jewelry shop. We handle and research marks every day, and the maker pages here come from that work.

How the identifier works

Searches are matched against our growing list of makers and their known marks. Photo scans use AI to read the letters on the stamp, and then the same matching applies. Each maker page shows what we know about the mark, and pages we have not fully checked are marked as drafts and kept out of search engines until we have.

Results are a starting point, not a certificate. Worn or partial stamps can resemble several makers, so compare against the photos and consult an expert before buying or selling.

Help us improve it

Know who made a mark we are missing, or spotted a mistake? Add a mark or get in touch. Nothing is published until we have reviewed it.
